It was a Barbee, D’Angel showdown at Teensplash

By S. Wilson
Barbee and D’Angel just can’t seem to stop crossing paths…and if the direction their careers are going is anything to go by then a lot more of that will be happening.
Barbee’s hit single Love You Anyway is on all the major charts in Jamaica and also on the New York/South Florida Charts. Check again, D’Angel’s Stronger is also in the mix of things. Presently Barbee’s single hold the stronger position.
Recently at the Teensplash rehearsal there were speculations on whether or not things would turn into a catfight…but no, nothing happened, however it was all played out on stage at Teensplash as D’Angel performed First Lady and uttered words like “meck a gal gwey” and hinted at things again being nice between herself and her husband Beenie Man.
As for Barbee she was dressed to kill in a sexy leather body-hugging outfit that had the males in the house salivating instead of paying attention to her stage performance. They weren’t afraid to acknowledge the fact either as MC Jerry D made no apologies for his looking. When he threw out the question to find out if he had company in the ’looking’ department scores of males hands went up in the crowd.
With Teen Splash out of the way and the two having hot videos, there is no doubt that they will again be sharing the same stage. Will one or both of them give in to the speculations on the street and throw out the challenge for a lyrical on stage battle? Could Barbee take on D'Angel…and would D’Angel be able to hold her own if she did?

Kip Rich memorable at Sting

If there was one artiste who was ready for Sting, it was Kip Rich. Known for his lyrical prowess, this song-writer/deejay clearly burned the midnight oil writing an arsenal of new lyrics designed to slay his attackers.
But, while Kippo was in fine form, alas! he was unmatched. It was a case of ‘none willing to test’, as despite the deejay’s repeated calls for his detractors to take the stage, not even one man ventured. Getting increasingly bolder as his performance continued, Kip Rich called names and dismissed each potential clash victim with impunity and without apology. And although they were all in the house, they all remained silent, as they must have seethed under such a scathing attack.
But Kip Rich was on a roll this season; it was on Christmas Day that he delivered another of his much-talked-about performances at the Magnum GT Taylor Christmas Extravaganza held in St Elizabeth. Famous for his rich sense of humor this dancehall story-teller has combined his much-sought-after hit-making writing skills with his own unique delivery to carve out a niche for himself. His very popular Telephone Ting and The Letter. Are just two examples of his unending creativity.
The St Catherine born Marlon Plunkett aka Kip Rich gained his command of verse early. In school, writing poems was one of his favorite things to do so songwriting came with ease.
Kip Rich first major hit came in 1999 with the chart topper Leggo di Bwoy and continued with songs like Imagine This and Bad Man No Switch.
But it wasn’t until he linked up with Big Yard Family that Kip Rich had his greatest success with his number one single Telephone Ting and the follow up The Letter.
As he looks toward 2009 the artiste is now focused on getting some new materials out there and topping his 2008 performance.

Vybz Kartel Was The Last Man Standing

Kartel believes that he won the infamous Sting clash because he was the last man standing on the Jamworld stage on the morning afterwards.
"How di bwoy fi say him win the clash when him a repeat him lyrics dem all two time? Him tink people deaf/. Then yu a go run offa stage like tief inna yu police clothes you inna. Run? Don't run. Him cut with all him bands 'cause when mi look roun mi no see dem, just the equipment," Vybz Kartel said.
Only a day after the Sting clash, he has recorded a single called Don't Run on his own Adidjaheim Records label
(intro) notnice....di boy run like a wounded dawg,
Bruk usain record,
Dont run barber boy dont run,
The boy dress up like police an a run like thief,
Dont run barber boy dont run
(chorus)Big yaad .we a di last man standing.
Rrifle shot move the gully bankin .gwaan a di barber shop and trim.
Next year nuh do no more damn sting.
we a di last man standing.a pure big matic
gaza man bring.me nuh coward like bounty and him.
Log on pon youtube watch di damn film.(verse)lisahype.barber boy embarass him Fans

Mi cant believe him run wid him bands
Him sing one tune two time when teacha run out wid a million songs.
Gaza shub out the casket.so 2009 nuh mek nuh more plans

The song has already been released on a number of Internet websites and edited copies have been made available to radio stations.
While the Kartel-Mavado clash debate rages on, artistes such as Kip Rich and Merciless can rejoice because they emerged emphatic winners on the night of Sting. First, Kip Rich put in a brilliant performance to grab the initiative with the song Can Defend It earning several forwards to lyrically kill the Monster Hemp Higher who was booed for their troubles when they hit the stage to respond a few minutes later. Merciless was also in sparkling form and he earned several forwards for his 'sample speech' and for his song that declared that 'Bounty a bowas' using the melody from Chris Brown's With You. He also promised that 'tonight ah Ninjaman memorial' to huge cheers from the audience.

Enter the world of Mojo Morgan

Curiousity, amazement, surprise are just some of the reactions Mojo Morgan has received to his singing since he has gone solo.
"Because I was one of the less vocal members in Morgan Heritage, they hear my music and didn't expect that of me," said the singer who is now busy promoting his "Got Mojo" campaign.
The campaign is "an introduction to the world of Mojo Morgan," he shared. T-shirts, stickers and flyers are used in the promotional campaign plus the featuring of two of his releases Herbsman featuring the late Peter Tosh and River Nile on his MySpace. "When people hear me sing they can't believe it, because I am the one who does the rapping in Morgan Heritage," he told Chat! Explaining why they are pleasantly surprised when they hear him singing.
The campaign which started a month ago is going well as more and more people realize that Mojo is really a great singer in his own right.
Mojo recently released another single entitled Why Oh Why. Also he has completed the shooting of two videos for the singles of which one is a medley and according to him there will be some major surprises, both in the storyline and the cameos that will be appearing in the videos.

Prodigal Son to premier video for Head Cyaant Hot So

Raping babies a that oonu gone to? Mek mi tell oonu, Fada God a watch you.
So sings gospel deejay, Prodigal Son in his latest single, Head Cyaant Hot So, a song with a heavy dancehall beat and which has led some Christians to wonder if the deejay is staying true to gospel.
But Prodigal says he is more than staying true to his Christians conviction, he is staying true to life. The single, he explains, is a direct appeal to those ‘hot-headed’ criminal elements who are wreaking havoc on the children in particular and society in general.
Confident about the message in the music, Prodigal Son recently completed the video for the single and this will have its world premiere in a few weeks. It was shot on location in Maxfield and Whitehall, with video director, Terminal X.
Head Cyaan Hot So is currently # 18 on Hype Top 20 Singles Chart, after two weeks on the chart.

I-Octane ready for Sting

The recently held Reggae Fever saw singer I-Octane delivering a first class performance at the Catherine Hall Entertainment Centre in Montego Bay. Although the venue was not jam packed the singer worked as if he was performing to a full house, going through the paces with his popular numbers such as Poverty, Stab Vampire, Run Yet, None A Dem Nuh Frighten Wi and his big hit Different Page.
Looking ahead I-Octane is now preparing himself for the Greatest One Night Show on Earth - Sting. He is not taking any chances as the singer says he will be resting and meditating.
“Rest and meditation, that’s what I am about right now,” the cultural singer said.
According to I-Octane he will be “keeping the Almighty close” as he mentally prepares himself to face the expected massive crowd at Sting.
“Sting is an unpredictable crowd, you just have to ensure that you go there prepared and ready to deliver big time,” he said.
Come Friday, December 26 nothing will stop him from doing whatver it will take to win over the crowd there. “I need all my stamina...so no sex until after the show,” he confessed.
Before Sting I-Octane will be in action at Island Explosion in Clarendon with the following day, December 25 seeing him heading to St Elizabeth where he will be one of the featured acts on GT Taylor's Christmas Extravaganza.
After that it will be back to the city for Sting.

Lady Saw…new dancehall face of Digicel?

It seems Lady Saw is the new dancehall face of telecommunication giant Digicel.
The female DJ has performed at about six recent outside broadcast events where she gave command performances and represented the dancehall fraternity very well.
Lady Saw, who could possibly be on her way to becoming Digicel’s dancehall ambassador in 2009, did not shy away from the query but instead said, “Something is being worked out but I can’t say right now, but everybody will hear when the time’s right.”
Commenting on her performance at the recent Digicel’s Caribbean Cup match between Barbados and Jamaica, the ‘first lady’ of the dancehall said it was a touching moment for her.
“While performing and looking at how everybody was happy and enjoying themselves, it made me felt really proud to be Jamaican. Not only that, while doing the song ‘Jesus In The End’, I was touched to see the Opposition Leader Portia Simpson-Miller embracing her husband and smiling as I sang. I will forever cherish that moment,” Lady Saw said.
After she finished performing, she said that one of Digicel’s top bosses was among other persons who came over and complimented her for giving such a classy and riveting performance.
With respect to the dropping of words by other female artistes who ‘Muma’ said are trying to ‘draw her out’, she said she is not going to come down to their level and get into their passa passa. “I am now in a platinum cabinet all by myself,” Saw expressed.
Since Shaggy released his much talked about new song and music video ‘Bad Man Nuh Cry’, Lady Saw has recorded a female version that is already getting the thumbs up from Shaggy and his camp.
“Shaggy knows that I am capable and that’s why they drew for me and I am comforted to know that my career is still vibrant and very much on track,” Saw emphasized.
For the coming year, Saw will be putting out at least two albums. One of them will feature her new songs and will include among other artistes, veteran singer Marcia Griffiths with whom she did some recent recordings. The second album will be a little more hardcore but done in a tasteful way.
She is also scheduled for two tours of Europe in April and August. It’s definitely going to be an extremely busy year for the DJ who thinks that she has been a bit too ‘laid back’ this year.
“The Digicel events have shown me that I am still a huge force to reckon with in the business so I need to get out of my relaxation mood and start hurt up some people head in 2009,” Saw said.
her latest video Your Boyfriend is #1 on MVP Top 10 Video Countdown on RE TV and #4 on VTX (Video Top 10) on Hype TV.

Shaggy's Bad Man Don't Cry a real winner

Diamond-selling artiste, Shaggy, has the winning formula when it comes to making memorable videos. Remember It Wasn’t Me, Church Heathen and now his latest Bad Man Don’t Cry.
Premiered only a few weeks ago at Asylum’s anniversary celebration at Mas Camp, New Kingston, the video is already soaring in popularity.
Since its release, it has raced up the chart and claimed the top spot on Hype TV’s video chart a week ago. It’s now in its second week as the top video on that chart. Over on the RE TV Music Video Countdown charts Bad Man Nuh Cry is at #4, while on CVM’s Hitlist it’s in the #3 position.
Bad Man Don’t Cry was shot entirely on location in Jamaica under the direction of acclaimed video director, Jay Will. It features a variety of Jamaican celebrities in the cast, including Olympians Usain Bolt and Asafa Powell, Metro Media selector, Sky Juice, retired cop, Reneto Adams, Asylum’s Brian ‘Ribbi’ Chung and Eal Samuels, club owner, Carlos Max Brown, veteran deejay, Josey Wales, television personality, Milk, singjay Bar-bee and producer Danny Champagne among others.
The video tells the story of a Don and his right hand man (Shaggy) who is messing around his girl. It so happens that Shaggy the Mr Lover, Lover deejay falls in love with the Don’s sweetheart and could not control his emotions so he had to seek counseling. By this time, the Don has already had a hunch that someone in his organisation is messing around with his girl so he goes on a rampage trying to figure out who exactly it was. Therein lies the drama.

DI plans to deliver a stunning performance at Sting

The year 2008 marks the third time that singjay Danielle, aka DI, will be performing on the greatest one night show on earth, Sting ... and she is ready.
Slimmed down and sporting a curvaceous body, the glamour girl, who, quite appropriately is part of the Trendsetters section of the show, promises her fans a performance they will never forget.
“This will be my best yet,” she promises.
DI goes up against females like Spice, Pamputtae, Tifa, Timberlee, Stacious and Natalie Storm, and her plan is simple, "I am going to command the stage and deliver a performance that everybody will be talking about."
There will be none of the "mix up and blenda" performance which some people accused her of last year, and she is confident that her fans will be pleased, especially her mother, who Danielle says is her number one fan. “She is comfortable with my music and most times the songs make her laugh more than anything else. I know she can’t wait to see me perform,” she said.
“I’m not in any war with anybody… I am just doing my songs, saying my thing and who don’t like it, well that’s just too bad,” she shrugged.
Known for her hardcore lyrics — which she prefers to call suggestive and raunchy — DI is now intent on showing her versatility. She has worked with DJ Kareem, Truckback Records and Sly and Robbie in the past and is also reaching out to other producers. She recently recorded a track written and co-produced by conscious singer Duane Stephenson, which, she says, reflects the fact that she’s “embarking on a new me”.
“It’s not like there’s anything wrong with dancehall,” she hastened to add, “because that’s what I grew up on, and the songs I now do is my way of staying true to me. Doing anything else would be artificial,” declared DI.
She noted, however, that she “wants her thing to be on a global level” and the aim for 2009 is to “take DI to di worl”.
Her current songs like Beat It, Flip It and Pat You Kitty are receiving fairly good play in the dance and on radio, and it is this repertoire that she will take to the Sting stage on Boxing Day at Jamworld.

Suga Roy, Conrad Crystal & Gyptian find a winner in ‘Jah Jah See Dem A Come’

The dynamic DJ/singer duo Suga Roy & Conrad Crystal has once again found a winner. One of Reggae’s longest, most consistent duos has teamed up with hitmaker Gyptian for the remake of the Culture classic, ‘Jah Jah See Dem A Come’.
Since its release earlier this year, the cultural song has been getting nuff love not only in Jamaica but across the globe. The single is in constant rotation across all the top radio stations locally and abroad.
In fact, ‘Jah Jah See Dem A Come’ hit the number one slot for two weeks on the New Style Radio chart in Birmingham, England. The single is currently in the top ten and climbing on the TPN Radio chart in Italy and Caribbean Vibes Radio chart in the USA.
Locally, ‘Jah Jah See Dem A Come’ is also climbing The Jamaica Music Countdown, Stampede Street Vibes and RE TV charts.
In additional, the captivating music video for the single is in massive rotation across all the music video programmes and channels.
‘Jah Jah See Dem A Come’ (I ‘n’ I a conquerer) was originally done by the iconic group Culture in 1976 and remains one of their best songs to date.
Without a doubt, Suga Roy, Conrad Crystal and Gyptian’s remake of ‘Jah Jah See Dem A Come’ is one of the big tunes for the Christmas, as the three top artistes more than do justice to the classic.
‘Jah Jah See Dem A Come’ the remake is the lead off single for one of the greatest projects to hit the music industry in years. A project that will revolutionize the reggae scene in 2009. ‘Suga Roy, Conrad Crystal & The Icons of Reggae’ – one of the greatest albums of all time paying tribute to some of reggae’s legends. Due out in February 2009, listen out for more on this 17-track project.
Known for such hits as ‘Education’, ‘Tired A It’, ‘Johnny Too Bad’, ‘Piece Of The Action’, ‘Trace’, ‘Wha Mek Dem A Gwaan Suh’, ‘True Love’, ‘Love Overdue’, ‘Don’t Stop The Music’, ‘Righteous Train’, ‘Down In Jamaica’ and ‘So Many Persons’, Suga Roy & Conrad Crystal spent most of 2008 on the European circuit, giving sold-out performances in countries the likes of France, Italy, Switzerland, Japan and Spain, at places like Le Mans, Angers, Alencon, Annecy, Bienne, La Clusaz, Rome, Bologna, Strasbourg, Passy, Mulhouse and Girona, to mention a few.

Shaggy inspires Rwandans to dance to the reggae beat

Reggae has been rocking the African state of Rwanda. Diamond-selling reggae artiste Shaggy performed there for the first time on Saturday night, and the week before it was Sean Paul who thrilled Rwandans.
In recognition of their 10th anniversary, phone provider MTN invited Mr Boombastic to help them celebrate, and in true Shaggy style he gave them a show that will long be remembered. The list of attendees was headed by the Rwandan president, Paul Kagame.
Reports out of Africa indicate that by 9:30 on the evening of the show the atmosphere was buzzing with anticipation as a long-coated, baseball-capped Shaggy stepped on to the stage and launched into song.
It is further reported that there was a tense moment when security guards tried to move the crowds back from the front of the stage with batons. At this point, Shaggy reportedly stopped the show to appeal to the guards and the crowds, urging “everybody relax.” The concert is said to have continued unmarred with fans waving their arms in the air, singing along and, at one point, lighting up their mobile phones in the night sky.
Throughout the gig he covered all of his signature tunes including Mr Boombastic, It Wasn’t Me, Bona Fide Girl, Hope and Repent. One of the highlights was a duo of Would You Be, performed with Tony Gold, one half of the reggae act Brian & Tony Gold.

The Diva Lady G to stamp her class on Sting

What would Sting be without the divas? This year, the three ladies who have distinguished themselves and have earned the title ‘divas’ are Lady G, Patra and Juni Platinum.
All three have enjoyed success in the dancehall at various levels, with Lady G handling herself in a masterful way. The ever-fresh Lady G, has been deejaying from ‘back in the days’ and has consistently maintained a degree of currency in the dancehall. Every year, Lady G is sure to be found on one of the hot riddims rocking the dance.
Lady G has been recording professionally since the age of 15 and has been delivering hit records for over 20 years. It was the 1988 hit, Nuff Respect, produced by Augustus ‘Gussie’ Clarke that turned Lady G into a household name. She also had a massive hit with longtime friend Papa San with the song, Legal Right and more later scored on the charts with the single Breeze Off.
In the 1990s, she teamed with then Main Street colleague Crissy D on Girls like Us which entered the British charts and saw the artistes performing on Top of The Pops (television show) in England.
In the past few months, Lady G’s name has been ringing with the delicately balanced combination single with Lovindeer, That Question, which asks the question, ‘You eat’, with the response being, ‘You cook?’ This question-and-answer has become one of the biggest talks in dancehall.
G, as she is affectionately called, is sure to stamp her class in this divas segment of Sting. Watch out!

RAMPING SHOP BY VYBZ KARTEL AND SPICE

It will be a family affair at Reggae Fever

The third staging of Reggae Fever set to take place at the Catherine Hall Entertainment Complex in Montego Bay on Saturday, December 20 will see the promoter placing a strong emphasis on family entertainment.
According to promoter Donovan Carter the concept of including a fun day is one he feels is very necessary.
In this fast paced world, students spend most of their time in school, parents are at work and when they do come home, they are tired and the kids are off to bed. What better way to celebrate the holiday than include an element in the show that will have the family lyming together and having fun, he said.
To ensure that there is never a dull moment during the fun day that will be taking place before the main event, there will be bounce-abouts, rides, computer games, magicians, clowns and an excitement bike show courtesy of stunt riders from Kingston and Montego Bay.
This sport is fast taking off in Jamaica and trust me when I say that these bikers will be doing some gravity defying stunts that should have patrons eyes popping out, Carter pointed out.
The best part of the whole deal is that those who pay to enter the fun day will get the added treat of not paying an extra cost for the big stage show later in the night.
Following all the festivities of the fun day the big stage show which will be featuring performances from dancehalls best and the brightest upcoming artistes such as Capleton, Anthony B, Ninja Man, Vybz Kartel, George Nooks, Romain Virgo, Nesbeth, DAngel, Mr Chumps, Hitman Walle, Teflon and Dada.
This is a not to be missed event, where else do you get the best of both worlds? Carter quizzed.

Nikki Issues Public Apology

On the morning of Dec 4, 2008 during the morning program on Zip 103FM, a song aired that contained some very explicit lyrics. As a radio disc jock it is my duty to ensure my music is suitable for broadcast & free of all explicit words and also free from suggestive lyrics, and, on this morning I failed in doing so. This was an honest mistake that should have never happened. I would like to apologize to all listeners and especially to the children who may have heard this and also their parents and/or guardian who were subjected to it. I am human and I have erred and in doing so offended and angered my loyal listeners to whom I owe an apology.

I would like to use the medium to unequivocally apologize to not only my listeners but also the Broadcast Commission and my Zip 103FM family both of whom I have disappointed. As it was always my intention to entertain the masses to ensure that the listeners start their day with a smile. This was unintentional but still a severely negligent incident.

I have been taken of air, as my fate is to be decided. I hope I continue to be in the hearts and minds of our faithful listeners & please believe I am fully prepared to accept what is deemed a suitable punishment for my indiscretion.
Sincerely,

Nikki Z

Prodigal comes with new fiery single

Gospel deejay Prodigal Son’s latest single is hot! Well depends on who is listening anyway as the single is pure dancehall. Entitled Head Cyannt Hot So bouncy dancehall rhythm really have listeners going…so too the socially conscious lyrics.
“I know some people will say that it is not a gospel song,” Prodigal admitted with a smile, but the deejay firmly believes that there is a place in gospel for this single and so he’s making no apologies for it.
“The truth is that although we Christians are not of the world, we still live in the world and this song, Head Cyaant Hot So, is strictly reality,” he affirms.
The single, produced by Danny Browne, hits out against the killings and the rape of children that has been taking place in Jamaica. It mentions Ananda, men posing as ‘cabbies’ to do their dirty deeds and asks, Raping babies a that oonu gone to? Mek mi tell oonu, Fada God a watch you.
Prodigal said that he was inspired to write the song after a visit to the female prison, Fort Augusta, where he met the mother of the nine-month-old baby boy who had been sodomised.
“That meeting really had an impact on me … to know that a mother could lose her baby boy is such a manner is really disturbing. This song is my way of keeping the spotlight on these crimes,” he said, adding that he recently filmed the video for Head Cyaant Hot So.
According to the artiste, this situation and is not about Christian or non-Christian, “whether demonic force or crime out of control, it affects all of us,” the deejay stated. “Some people don’t want to condemn it, but I will be the matyr.”
Prodigal, whose real name is Calvin Curtis Whilby was a member of a gang called Fatherless Crew. He later gave up his guns and girls and accepted Christ, similar to the parable of the Prodigal Son.
However, he has been criticised in the past for being “too dancehall” by performing on hardcore dancehall shows such as Sting and other secular events. He says he performed the song recently in Hanover and the response “was good”.

Barbee added to Teensplash lineup

A lot can happen in one year and no one knows that more than singer Barbee. Last year she did a cameo on Teensplash, this year she will now be going solo.
The talented singer was added to the exciting roster of performers as a result of her growing popularity with the younger crowd.
That her rating soared so high among them is not surprising as the singer has been making a lot of school stops as part of Richie B’s Hot 102’s school tour promotion.
Barbee has been dominating every local chart and the international ones too with her red hot single Love You Anyway. The video for the single since its ER premier is also enjoying heavy rotation on stations such as RE TV, Hype TV and CVM’s Hitlist.
Barbee will be joined on stage by her two dancers at Teensplash.

13 Clap riddim from Danger Zone a mad up di place

Voluntary or involuntary, Danger Zone producer Penny Bling’s new riddim 13 Clap will trigger heads bobbing and feet stamping. As for the sharp meeting of hands, the clapping won’t stop.Xtratainment was previed to get a listen off Danger Zone production’s title track from their newest signed entertainers, DJ Tornado and dancers Dutty Link Dancers. The Dancers made their names at all happening spots in the streets and adds to their fame dance moves, Hot Plate. Appropriately, the 13 Clap dance and single by DJ Tornado of the same name, named the track. If any other track on this “dance stopper” is as hard hitting as Tornado/Dutty Link’s 13 Clap then fans might as well check out the others on the galloping rhythm. 13 Clap boasts explosive TNT tracks on the rhythm from the sexy Ce’Cile, Mikey Pelpa, Mr. Easy, Bunji Garlin, Jigsy King and Penny Bling. Already the releases have taken the airwaves. A second set of singles is scheduled to be released, which should feature a few international acts. Tornado with the title track and dance song, ‘13 Clap’, has already started getting rotation in Kingston 11. Dazzle Mondays and other weekly dances have endorsed the single with constant rotation. Plans are in the making for a double medley video to animate the song and take over the video channels.13 Clap is the follow-up rhythm to the major 2006 hit Wipe Out riddim produced by Penny Bling for Danger Zone Records. The Cayman Islands are said to be feeling the effect of just the 13 Clap rhythm version, no vocals.“It seems like happy times have returned to dancehall in a time when it is needed most since they say dancehall is getting too violent and Penny Bling, Della Danger, Jigsy and the rest of the Danger Zone camp promise to continue making happy music to build dancehall ‘cause “unification through music” is the Danger Zone motto,” states Penny Bling. “We plan to campaign for the rest of the year and the next year like Barack Obama,” producer of the 13 Clap, Penny Bling, promises.

Bounty says Jamaica needs to smile more

Yasmine Peru
Monday, December 08, 2008

This is no joke. Bounty Killer, the deejay known for being "cross, angry, miserable", says Jamaica needs to smile more. And, in fact, Rodney 'Bounty Killer' Pryce is leading the way. These days, the Killer has, in fact, been smiling more. a lot more.
A smiling Bounty Killer with friend Lena British at Asylum earlier this year.
Actually, it was a laughing Bounty who we saw on Saturday night at the stage show Reggaelution where the ace deejay was out with friends and obviously having fun.
"The dancehall is now totally about four things: gangsta, guns, daggering, and dancing. It is not about having real fun anymore," he declared. "That's why I'm attending shows like these. to listen to the music and enjoy myself," he explained.
He questioned why at a time such as this, with the historic win by Barack Obama in his bid for the US Presidency, certain uplifting songs aren't being played more. "Dem even stop playing the Barack Obama songs by Coco Tea and Mavado. Why aren't uplifting songs like these getting more airplay?" he asked.
In a light-hearted mood and smiling willingly for the cameras, he asked, "Haven't you been listening to my recent songs?"
This in reference to one of his newest singles, Responsibility, which questions why children don't play dandy shandy anymore and asks parents if they still send their children to Sunday School.
Known for an aresenal of gun tunes, and a slew of clash lyrics with which he has ably defended himself on numerous occasions, there is also the flip side of Bounty Killer which, through the years, has seen him seriously evoking social consciousness in his role of Poor People's Defender. Songs such as Anytime, Look Into My Eyes and Book Book Book are among those which show Bounty's crusading spirit.
Bounty, the leader of dancehall's formidable Alliance - comprising Mavado, Wayne Marshall, Aidonia, Bling Dawg and Nitchie Kutchie, among others - and whose lyrical duelling with arch rival Beenie Man, is well-documented, says he has "left out of the competition thing right now" because it contributes too much to making people "cross and miserable".

Among the celebrities who appear in the video are Olympic and world record holder in the one and two hundred meters, veteran deejay Josey Wales, Usain Bolt, Asafa Powell, Mavado, selector Sky Juice from Metro Media, Reneto Adams, Ragashanti, D’Angel, and of course, Shaggy himself.

Mystic grabs the spotlight in the new red label ad

Mystic will tell you that although she loves to dance “it’s my passion” she is no “video vixen”.
“I am not one of those dancers who you see in every video,” she explains. If you do that, then you will get stale easily, so that’s why I can’t respond to every call to appear in music videos,” stated the dancer who appears in the chat! Commercial and who as also been haled as the dance tutor for Olympic champion Usain Bolt.
But, she emphasizes that those jobs that she takes on, ensure that her dancing is memorable. And that’s what she does in the recent red label wine commercial where she plays the lead dancer opposite dancehall favourate, busy signal.
“It was exciting filming the commercial,” she said, adding that the audition for role was a bit nerve-wrecking as all the top dancers were present. “But it was a win-win situation because it’s an ad that calls for lots of talented dancers, so the best group was also chosen,” she added.
Mystic has also been kept busy working with singers Brick and Lace as one of the dancers in their recently completed music video for the single bad to the bone. Directed by Nadia Sampson and Tim Naylor’ it also features dancers MOB, Craigy Dread, Chris aka Dark Angel and Shady Squad.
It was shot on location at the old railway station in Downtown, Kingston Jamaica.

D’Angel is definitely making her way up the Hype TV Top 20 Single Chart with Stronger
