ETANA SET TO DELIGHT AT IRIE JAMBOREE

Reggae songstress, Etana, is in preparation mode as she works out her set for Irie Jamboree, North America’s premier reggae festival.

One of the top female acts billed for this annual, highly-anticipated event, Etana excited fans at the New York launch of the festival earlier this month when she gave them a hint of what she would unleash at the Labour Day event. Scheduled to take place on Sunday, September 6 at York College Outdoor Complex in Queens, NY, Irie Jamboree will feature a galaxy of stars, all of whom are expected to shine brightly. But, for Etana, who has distinguished herself on many local and international stages, the focus will remain constant — pleasing her ever-growing number of fans.
“At the end of the day, it is really all about making the fans happy and giving them value for money,” she explains. “We must remember that we are in a recession and when people spend their hard-earned dollar to come and see you perform we have to appreciate that and give thans. It is therefore my duty to give them my best … always,” she emphasizes.
The acclaimed Warrior Princess, whose repertoire includes the mega hits Roots, Warrior Love, Wrong Address, Blessings (with Albarosie), recently returned from a North American tour with legendary reggae group, The Abyssinians.
“It was a fantastic experience,” she says of the tour. “I am looking forward to hitting the road again,” she adds.
In addition to Etana, Irie Jamboree will feature singers Freddy McGregor, Ken Boothe and Sugar Minott, Tony Rebel, Queen Ifrica, Mr Vegas, Bushman, Lady G, Ras Shiloh, Natural Blacks, Gramps Morgan, Sean Paul, TOK, Assassin, Spice, Chino, Bar-Bee, Laden, Pinchers, Daddy Lizard, Shinehead, Flourgon, Humble, Steele and Tasha T.
Irie Jamboree typically attracts thousands of reggae lovers from New Jersey, New York and Connecticut, but music fans come from as far away as Atlanta, South Florida and Canada each year.

MR. VEGAS HEADLINES HOT 97'S 'ON DA REGGAE TIP' IN NEW YORK

Singjay Mr. Vegas will be one of the headliners at urban radio station HOT97's "On Da Reggae Tip" show on Friday September 4th at the Hammerstein Ballroom in Manhattan, New York.

The singjay’s monster hit song, I Am Blessed, on the Liv Up Records imprint has been bombing the airwaves into submission in the United States over the Summer alongside other big songs on the same Riddim from fellow entertainers Vybz Kartel, Mavado and Serani.

“I am going to make a statement at the HOT 97 show, my single I Am Blessed is in heavy rotation on HOT 97 and other urban stations along the east coast so my fans are looking forward to the performance, and I am going to give them a high energy set,” Mr. Vegas, who just completed a highly successful European tour, said.

The show will be hosted by Bobby Konders & Jabba, and is widely regarded as the biggest dancehall show in New York City during the Labour Day weekend. Other acts on the show include Beenie Man, Bounty Killer, Elephant Man, Mavado, and Serani.

Mr. Vegas has always had an incredible appeal with the Hispanic demographic, and has appeared on several Reggaeton mix tapes in that community, especially after his Pull Up song inspired Pitbull to score
a major US chart hit with Culo which has a similar melody. Mr. Vegas has consistently scored hits in the US marketplace ever since jumping into the spotlight with Nike Air. Songs such as Heads High", had a
successful chart run in the UK and a #69 peak on the Billboard R & B chart. The year 2000 saw the single "Hot Gal Today" featuring Sean Paul becoming a minor hit on the US R&B charts, peaking at #66.In 2001, he issued Damn Right, featuring guest appearances from Shaggy and Big Yard; this album went to #2 on the US Reggae chart. 2004 saw the release of the Pull Up LP, and the title track scraped the bottom of the Billboard Top 200, peaking at #98 (as well as #68 on the R&B chart).

Two months ago, Mr. Vegas made a much talked about cameo at the DJ Prostyles’ party in Orlando where his I Am Blessed song was one of the high points of a night full of excellent performances from rappers and dancehall superstars.

Mr. Vegas will be performing in Guyana tonight August 28, 2009.

MAVADO'S JAPAN TOUR MAJOR SUCCESS

A crowd the size of Reggae Sumfest came out to the AICHI Reggae Breeze Festival yesterday to see Mavado Saturday night August 22, 2009. Thousands and thousands of Japanese Reggae and Dancehall fans flocked to the beach for what can only be described as a cross between Sumfest and Fully Loaded.

Thousands of miles away from home, Jamaican culture was alive and kicking as sound systems pumped out everything from Garnet Silk to Bounty Killer, surrounded by stalls selling Jerk chicken and Ital stew! Japanese Dancehall acts and selectors warmed up the crowd but when Mavado hit the stage the energy level was cosmic. The huge crowd hung on Mavado's every word and went ballistic from start to finish.

"Its a great feeling to travel so far from Jamaica and be shown so much love from another country," said a tired Mavado after giving his all at the show. "It shows the power of our music and culture and we need to keep using it and representing it positively. I'm having a great experience in Japan and will definitely be back soon."

Anger Management band did another fine job, as well as Flexxx and Chase Cross who were both shown a lot of love from the sea of fans in attendance when called on stage by Gully God.

The final leg of the Reggae Breeze Mavado Tour stops in Kumamoto last night Sunday August 23 for the Kyushu Music Festival where he ending with the Japanese wanted more.

Veronica walked away – but the girls won gold without her – 4x100m relay

Jamaica's 200m silver medalist Veronica Campbell-Brown refused to help her country to capture the gold medal in 4x100m final in Berlin earlier today (August 22, 2009). Her decision could have denied Jamaica from taking home the gold medal in the 4x100m relay but things turned out to be in Jamaica's favor as Simone Facey, Shelly-Ann Fraser, Aleen Bailey and Kerron Stewart went ahead to win gold clocking 42.06 ahead of Bahamas (42.29).

Information reaching the media is that Veronica had wanted to run the anchor leg but was denied of such wish by the coaching staff. The coaches’ decision then triggered her to walk off the field.

ANTICIPATION HIGH FOR BEENIE SIZZLE ON SATURDAY

As preparation for the LIME Beenie Man Sizzle stage show slips into high gear, anticipation is mounting for legions of Beenie Man fans who want to attend the annual concert featuring heavyweight dancehall and hip hop acts.

The expectation is heightened given the fact that thousands of persons are vying for a limited number of complimentary tickets in a Beenie Ultimate Fan competition. Beenie Man’s fans can participate by texting the word K-I-N-G to 444-4280. Each text costs $80.

“All the entries go into a pool, and then LIME will call and ask those persons selected one question, for instance, what does the L in LIME stand for? And then if they answer correctly, they will win two
tickets to LIME Beenie Sizzle,” Devon Hunter, LIME’s sponsorship manager said.

The show will be held this Saturday August 22 at the National Stadium.

There are also plans to have ticket giveaways during LIME motorcades planned for Mandeville on Thursday, Kingston on Friday and Portmore on Saturday.

“The motorcades will promote Beenie Sizzle as well as have a family component. Between the hours of 2 and 5 p.m, there will be contests such as a dance contest where people will be challenged to do the LIME dance, and those who are successful can win t-shirts, a Blackberry flip, and there will also be ticket giveaways,” Mr. Hunter said.

Each motorcade will also feature an entertainment component between the hours of 5 and 7 p.m. with performances by established artistes as well as talent from the local community.

“Beenie Man will also give away computers. On Thursday, he will be giving away a computer to the McIntosh Primary in Manchester and a computer to the Mandeville Police station. On Friday, he will be
giving two computers to the special crime unit at the Half Way Tree Police station,” Mr. Hunter said.

The special presentation to the Half Way Tree Police Station will be made on Friday, August 21st at 12:30 p.m and the press is invited to attend.

The ticket outlets for the show are the National stadium, L.G. Brown at Dunrobin Avenue, Esso service station in Liguanea, Genus pharmacy in Portmore, Avery's Concepts on Molynes Road, Heaven's Texaco, Total in Ocho Rios and the Musiq Bar in Montego Bay.

The gates open at 6 p.m, and the show kicks off at 8 p.m.

Gallis/sassa step video for next week

The Sassa Step/Man ah Gallis video shoot has been postponed until next week Tuesday, August 25th. The dancers have been using the extra time to rehearse the choreographed moves for both videos. The video is being directed by celebrated v ideo director Jason ‘Jay Will’ Williams who has hired two choreographers, one for each video.

“Jay Will is going to make a statement with this dance video because this is the first video he is doing since Wacky Dip and he is pulling out all the stops. I have been to some of the rehearsals and I can
tell you that this video is going revolutionize how dance videos are done,” one source said.
In the meantime, Shy N, the 2007 Dancehall King for Japan who won the Internet Sassa Step contest to appear in the video, has been popping up at Kingston’s infamous dance sessions, learning new moves and finally experiencing some of the great vibes he’d only experienced before on dance DVDs.

“I am having good time, going to the sessions like Boasty Tuesday, Weddy Weddy, Passa Passa and finally seeing some of the places where the sessions keep for myself and not just on DVD, you know,” Shy N said.

Most Internet voters will remember that Shy N, who hails from Japan, had compiled a pretty nifty video on youtube where he demonstrated the Sassa Step on a sidewalk which ran parallel to a graffiti-decorated wall, and incorporated his routine with break-dancing as well. He is expected to play a prominent role in the Sassa Step segment of the video.

BEENIE APPROACHED ALLIANCE FOR BEENIE SIZZLE BUT THEY REFUSED

Beenie Man said that he had attempted to approach the Alliance to do his Beenie Sizzle show as a sign of unity, especially in a time when Jamaica is doing so well on the international scene with the
sprinting prowess of its athletes.
“We stand up one place backstage and mi see Julian and mi ask Baller Davis fi say to Julian (Killer’s manager) if the artistes dem nah do the show, and him say the ‘artistes dem ah go Japan’. Mi approach dem because mi ah promote peace, and ah push unity, but dem refuse. So big up Shelly Ann Fraser and Bolt on their great performances in Berlin, the fans dem ah say Gully and Gaza right now, and mi ah say Jamaica right now,” he said.
He said that he was promoting a ‘feel-good vibe’ at Beenie Sizzle which will also double as a celebration of the athlete’s performances in Berlin, Germany.
“Beenie Sizzle will be about great music, I am giving away 5,000 tickets so that the fans can come and celebrate being Jamaican and the great performances of the athletes,” he said.
The show, sponsored by corporate giants LIME, will feature musical heavyweights such as Rick Ross, Vybz Kartel and the Portmore Empire, Queen Ifrica, Sizzla, Destra, Jah Cure, Aidonia, Junior Reid, Freddie
McGregor and the Big Ship family, Mr. Vegas, Laden, D’Angel, Barrington Levy, G Whiz, Heavy D, RDX, Mykal Rose, Nesbeth, I Octane, Goddy Goddy and Ward 21.
LIME will distribute the 5,000 tickets through a texting competition open to the public and details of that will be announced in the press soon once approval is granted by the Betting Gaming and Lotteries
Commission.
Part proceeds of the event will be used to rebuild a school in Waterhouse, and Beenie Man is joining forces with the LIME Foundation to give out computers and provide Internet services in war-torn areas
of the Corporate Area, as well as rural Jamaica.

FLIPPA ROCKS CHAMPIONS; SAYS MONEY-THROWING DAYS ARE OVER

Following his awesome performances at Reggae Sumfest and A St Mary Mi Come From, Flossing King Flippa Mafia made it three in a row as he rocked the massive at Champions In Action early Sunday morning and left them wanting more.

It was a performance worthy of a King as Flippa demonstrated why he is considered dancehall royalty. In a no-nonsense mood, the jovial entertainer swaggered on stage and got down to the real business of entertaining his ever-growing throng of fans. He was there to give — musically and otherwise — and they were more than eager to receive.

Known for his on-stage antics which earned him the moniker King of Flossing, Flippa went through his repertoire of dancehall hits, including his number one song, Unfinished House. “Mi vehicle cyan dearer than mi house, nor mi rims cyan dearer than mi couch,” he deejayed the first line of the song and his fans totally took over.

But, while Flippa, as many expected, took the excitement level up a few notches with his money-throwing into the crowd, he also made an announcement which perhaps surprised many. The King of Flossing announced that his bills-throwing days were coming to an end as he would be using his dollars in what he said was a more charitable way. He is in the process of establishing a foundation to help needy children.

Speaking to the press after the show, Flippa said he enjoyed the look of joy on patrons’ faces as they pocketed the money he threw out into the crowd. “I’m all about making people happy and enjoying the good. It’s there for all of us. But, on the other hand, there are so many kids out there who really need help that I figure it’s best to put this money in a more structured way and bring them some joy. I know my fans will understand this,” the Flossing King said.

Flippa is scheduled to perform at a number of overseas gigs in the coming weeks.

‘IT’S JUST ANOTHER DAY’ FOR DÁVILLE

Just when you think DáVille is down and out, the singer just finds another gear, stays on track and come with a song that have you keenly listening to every word that escapes his lips.
The singer after a minor stage furor at the recently held Sumfest, that shocked several persons because of the calm natured person he is known to be, has put that chapter behind and released another single titled ‘It’s Just Another Day’ for radio personality Arif Cooper.
Persons, who are privy to have heard the song, said that it gave them goose bumps as it was about something so real that we see in our everyday lives and can easily identify with.
Starting with smooth intro in which the singer repeatedly chanted “voices crying out” he went on musically paint the picture of “homeless people on the street with blisters on their and from a distance he can hear their voices crying out “Sir, can you help me? But no one looks their way they just ignore their cries as their pass by.”
As DáVille sings the intensity of the song resonate among the listener, captivating the mind in a way to take a deep look at the human side of life often times ignored by so many. For the singer, the reality is very hard to face but it’s “just another day” for the ones people fail to see and are in this situation.
‘Just Another Day’ has an international appeal and addresses a worldwide crisis affecting several countries. When he sings about when night falls, the homeless have nowhere to sleep the cardboard boxes beneath the trenches is their privacy.
The ‘trenches’ the singer speaks about is synonymous to that of homeless persons abroad. While homeless people in Jamaica rarely live under bridges of highways, they are noticeably seen on the sidewalks of piazzas, in abandoned buildings and open lots.
Some homeless persons are on the streets because of addiction or mental problems, while there are others who have simply fallen on hard times and have no alternative. These are the eyes that piercingly look at people, then themselves and seem to ask the motionless questions, “Why couldn’t I be like them? Or why am I living this way?”
It’s so very good to know that an artiste can take time out to not just look at the positive things taking place in his/her life but also at the negative things that affects us all. Well done DåVille this song is excellent and will definitely be going places!

BEENIE AND KARTEL BOOED AT CHAMPION ACTION

The sight of Beenie Man and Vybz Kartel on the Jamworld stage battling a barrage of boos this morning underlined the mood of the nation since Sumfest - that the majority has definitely swung to Alliance/Gully.
In the wake of Killer's lyrical bullets that have pierced Vybz Kartel's armour and delivered crushing blows in recent days, the Champions in Action crowd was anticipating the 5 Star General's performance and he did not disappoint. This show will go down in history as Bounty Killer and Mavado had the crowd in utter pandemonium at around 7am Sunday morning.
During their performance Vybz Kartel could take it no longer and left Beenie on stage to face the boos alone, and despite the boos growing in decibels and Beenie's attempts to draw out the show and force the people to tire and leave, not one person walked out of Jamworld until they got what they came for: the Alliance in full effect.
While Kartel's amateurish ability to perform with live band Ruff Kut was exposed, Anger Management band provided the energy that drove the Alliance's memorable appearance. It was a bad night for the Gaza crew as earlier Blak Ryno and Jah Vinci were also soundly booed and was a stark contrast to the constant huge forwards that greeted every word and melody from both Bounty Killer and Mavado. It evoked memories of Bounty Killer's 96 Sting performances in the sun-hot that was as fiery as the morning temperature.
During their set Mavado called on stage Chase Cross, Flex and Einstein, who have also stolen the march on the Gaza young acts with their current dancehall hits, and the forwards didn't drop a notch as they proved that the Alliance hit factory, that ironically gave birth to Vybz Kartel, shows no sign of slowing.
As the crowd streamed out of Jamworld triumphant Alliance/Gully fans were in loud and buoyant mood. From the sound of the disgruntled Gaza fans, head bowed and stride slowed, coupled with the less than lukewarm response to Kartel's reply to Killer's diss songs, seem to be returning to from whence they came - Alliance.
Earlier Beenie Man seemed to be very aware of what was to unfold at Champions in Action as he approached the Alliance management at Jamworld with a plea for Mavado to appear on his Sizzle show next week. With the chemistry between him and Kartel fizzling more than sizzling after this outing it seems unlikely the two of them will take the stage together again. Kartel will not want to be wounded again by the boos that were initially brought on by Beenie.
All in all it was another great staging of Champions in Action by the Presidential Click and the children of West Kingston will benefit from the generosity of the organisation at the upcoming back-to-school treat. As Beenie and Kartel have a week to regroup for Sizzle this coming weekend in Kingston, Mavado is off to Japan and the Killer moves to another favourite Alliance stomping ground, the UK.

VYBZ KARTEL RESPONDS TO BOUNTY KILLER'S SONG

Vybz Kartel destroyed Bounty Killer's lyrical jibe in a song dubbed 'Vybz Kartel -- Bownty's Killa' where he threatens 'anywhere mi see yu Killa, mi ah go shotta box'. He also makes references to Killa's oral abilities with stinging lines calling him an informer in the infamous Rat Bat Seaview episode, reveals intimate details of Killa's exploits with an ex-girl Peaches, calls him a plagiarist for stealing Spragga Benz's diss song and generally makes fun of the Warlord's street credibility.
Kartel starts off strong with a stinging series of lines:

How yu fi say yu nuh waan gal weh freaky?
Killer? Weh used to nyam Milk pussy weekly
Shorty never tell the pussy nothing bout no pee pee
But Angel tell everybody say yu suck it like sweetie

Kartel’s scorched earth policy means that he uses any item in his ‘Killer file’ to dismantle the Warlord’s reputation, using name-dropping Bounty’s former flames into the diss song at will. Check it: “Peaches tell me say yu nyam under her till yu belch when it digest. BURP” and “Kedine from Havendale say yu a shark, regular she shit inna yu mouth and fart”. When he delivers those lines, they don’t sound like inventive disses but bonafide facts he has access to because of his status as a superstar who knows these groupies personally.

He also finds a way to weave in former friends such as Bling Dawg and Wayne Marshall into the fabric of his song. He takes a stab at Bling when he deejays: If yu see batty inna the centre, yu faggy/Ah Bling Dawg brief yu tek off, not baggy. Wayne Marshall also gets a sidehanded diss as well as he deejays: Listen back the Schoolbus style/Don’t fuck inna the school bus, mi tell the chile/Killa, yu ears clog up with Marshall cocky oil/The Teacha anno paedophile.

Kartel has the full file on all the Alliance secrets, compiled when he was a member of the crew. He drops an allegation that is as disgusting as it is vile when he deejays: True Angel go siddown pon a next man peg /Killa, yu go hear and go frass inna yu head/ yu go ah the gal yard go shit pon her head/ who don’t believe Kartel, ask Angel.

He defends his songs, from Don’t Fuck Inna the School Bus to Pussy Pathologist to Virginity with wicked glee as he smears Killer’s already-blackened rep, but why the hell are you reading this when you could have been listening to the song.

BOUNTY KILLER'S CHATTER BOX DISSES KARTEL

Hardcore Alliance fans have been salivating over Bounty Killer’s just-released ‘Chatta Box’ single which delivers a stunning broadside on his former protégé, Vybz Kartel. The intro is delivered with classical Bounty Killer ‘pottymouth’ panache and the brilliant vulgarity of the tirade makes it an instant rewind moment.

CHAMPIONS IN ACTION THIS SATURDAY

As the smoke clears form the Dream Weekend in Negril, the focus move to this Saturday's August 15th, 2009 staging of Champions in Action at Jamworld in Portmore. With a line-up that many are lauding as better than Sumfest, the inclusion of Sizzla, Capleton, Anthony B and others is a calculated move on behalf of the promoters.
"Our show is not just about who's hot and who's hype" said the Presidential Click spokesperson. "Champions in Action is a showcase of the best in Dancehall and Reggae talent over the years so we've included artists that have proved they can deliver a catalogue of hits for the patrons."
A lot of anticipation is also surrounding Bounty Killer's appearance, after his show-stealing performance at Sumfest. His musical son, Dancehall's superstar international flag-bearer Mavado, is sure to repeat his fiery set at last year's Champions in Action. The Doctor Beenie Man is a perennial crowd favourite and will have the crowd unmoved until he closes the show. Local high-riding DJ Vybz Kartel's legion of fans will have the opportunity to catch him live at Jamworld and he is sure to deliver. With the likes of Elephant Man, Etana, Assassin, I-Wayne, Queen Ifrika, Andrew & Wada Blood and much more also on the bill, Champions in Action is perhaps the most complete stage show of recent times.
As usual a chunk of the proceeds will go towards the West Kingston back-to-school treat, for the children of the inner-city communities in that region, regardless of political persuasion, another positive reason to support this historic event. All this for just $1000!

Mr. Vegas 'blesses' Mobay with an Independence Day gift

• VEGAS SHINES IN MOBAY

Montego Bay is still buzzing from the incredible performance that the I Am Blessed artiste delivered at the UDC Old Hospital site on Independence Day August 6th 2009.

Mr. Vegas hit the stage at about 12:30 a.m. with his backing band, Thugz, and got an immediate ovation from the crowd with his number one hit, Taxi Fare. He then segued into the unapologetic Sucky Ducky, and another cheer went up from the crowd. He paused to speak to the audience a bit before doing Hands Up and the venue literally rocked as did Nike Air and Heads High back to back, the crowd cheering him on he turned up the tempo.

After revving up the audience to a high, Mr. Vegas changed pace and showed his versatility with the one-drop hit, Do You Know, which had lighters flickering quietly as he mesmerized them with his ice cube clear vocals.

Mr. Vegas then pumped up the adrenaline level in the venue with his dance segment, featuring some of the biggest dances to have emerged in dancehall in the past three years. Joined by his two female dancers, he immediately went into Tek Weh Yuself, and then Raging Bull. He then
dropped his loner’s anthem, Mi NuhWaan No Friend from Dem with the crowd cheering his every move, before he closed strongly with his monster number one hit, I Am Blessed.

He then exited to loud roars from the large crowd, but they demanded that he return for an encore performance. Mr. Vegas obliged and sparkled with his new radio hit, Up Deh.

Before Mr. Vegas performed, a slew of young artistes entertained the large crowd. However, the crowd was disappointed that reggae singer Etana was a no-show at the event. GREAT PERFORMANCE FROM FLIPPA MAFIA AT ST MARY MI COME FROM

It was last Thursday morning August 6th 2009 when the King of Flossing, Flippa Mafia hit the stage at St Mary Mi Come From to perform for a crowd that was eager for him.
Flippa was called on stage by fast-rising deejay, Assassin, who had the crowd hyped up with a great performance. He announced Flippa, and St Mary erupted when the slim built, always smiling entertainer ran on stage. Flippa took the musical baton from Assassin and surged forward with a performance that really announced his arrival. It wasn’t about the champagne-popping, because there was none and it was only after he received his well deserved forwards that he sprinkled a few $500 bills into the crowd.
But, honestly, his performance was all about his songs and his ability to engage his fans. With the ever popular Unfinished House now sitting comfortably at the number one spot on Richie B’s prestigious Jamaica Countdown Chart, it was easy to see why the single is in this coveted position. As the band struck up the riddim, the massives at Gray’s Inn shouted their approval with screams, lighters, by blowing horns, dancing and singing the words of the song.
“Dis youth know what him is about,” one middle-aged woman chimed as she sang Unfinished House.
Flippa reeled off singles from his growing repertoire and made his exit all too soon. Fans, however, can look forward to the deejay in performance at Champions In Action this Saturday August 15th 09.
“As always, I will do my best and give fans a performance that they truly deserve,” a smiling Flippa stated in an after-show interview.

"Yuh can't tek my virginity" - Queen Ifrica

Queen Ifrica's latest single Mek Mi Grow is now the most talk-about song in the streets as the Fyah Muma secretly blazed "some fire" on certain topics that are frequently used in songs by some of our top dancehall acts.
The Fyah Muma started off the song by telling a story of a girl who is forcing her friend "fi guh a man yard afta school" - the other girl then said "mi a go home to my mother, yuh can stay deh…
Nuh bowy can't draw mi round nuh coner,
Fi guh show mi no iguana, so low mi mek mi grow
After chanting, those positive lines the Fyah Muma then get a bit controversial when she spits lines such as:
"Yuh can't tek my virginity, cause that a God precious gift to me,
If it makes you feel good to sleep wid children in yuh rampin shop well don't bather worry when di lighten clap.
After a blazing second verse Queen Ifrica steps on a few more corns with lines such as "Whe di big bredda dem deh fi di likkle sista dem,
Why every song whe uhnu sing a fi dig out under dem,
Why yuh nuh teach dem fi be like some more Etana dem,
Whe di mercy whe yuh have fi lick yuh hand unda dem, So be a betta bredda to yuh likkle sista,
Not every Good Girl Gone Bad some a dem trust inna God
On a scale of five, I give this song (Mek Mi Grow) 5 out of 5.

mek mi grow - Queen Ifrica
Right now Queen Ifrica can be classed as the leading female artiste in music industry who is well equipped dozens of hit under her belt, such as Daddy Don't Touch Mi, Lioness on The Rise, Keep It To Yuh Self, Far Away, Below The Waist, No Love Again just to name a few.

VEGAS PROMISES TO BRING 'SUMFEST' TO MOBAY ON AUGUST 6TH

Mr. Vegas will be bringing his own unique bit of excitement to Montego Bay this week as he promises a “great Sumfest performance” for his legion of fans at the UDC car park in the capital city.

“When I was on tour in Europe, mi have sleepless nights thinking about how I missed Reggae Sumfest and you know that Montego Bay is my town so mi plan to go all out on August 6th and give Mobay people my Sumfest performance,” he said.

Mr. Vegas returned to Jamaica this week after completing a wildly successful ‘I Am Blessed tour’ in Europe. He had kicked off the tour on July 13th with a rousing performance on a show dubbed Summer Reggae Fest at Fort de Saint Pere in France. The tour lasted for about three weeks with several gigs in Germany, Italy, France, Belgium, Holland and Spain. Notable performances included closing the Dour Festival show in Belgium with a high-energy, rain-soaked performance that captivated the large 30,000 plus crowd which flocked to the site for the final day of the annual four-day music festival.

“The most challenging part of the tour was flying almost every day with two or three connections, and in a different type of climate in every country. It’s also hard to find food especially for myself because of
my reflux so at times it’s just one meal per day,” he said.

Despite the numerous challenges, Vegas had a great time interacting with his fans and entertaining them onstage.

“The shows were great we did not take a engineer with us so we had a sound problem on some shows but we made the best use of what we had and gave the people what they came to see - great, high energy performances. I can't tell definitively which show was better than the other but for me though, I would love to sit and watch the recording of when I closed the show at the Dour festival in Belgium, that was special,” he said.

He was also pleased to see that he was winning over a new generation of reggae-dancehall fans based on the popularity of ‘I Am Blessed’, a song that topped several local and international reggae charts. The
song is also enjoying excellent rotation on HOT 97 in New York and may soon be officially added to the playlists of several big urban radio stations.

“It was surprising how many young teenagers are following Mr. Vegas, the shows were well attended and I Am Blessed was like an anthem everywhere we played,” he said.

After performing in Montego Bay on August 6th, the artiste will be heading back to North America for three shows on consecutive nights. On August 12th , he will be performing at The Roxy in Boston, the
following day he will be at the Puffer Bellie in Hyannis, Boston, and on August 14th, he will perform at Blakelys in Virginia Beach, Virginia. After that, he gets a much deserved break before his next
gig at the National Stadium in Guyana on August 28th.

“Mr. Vegas just keeps working, I am truly blessed,” he said.

Good performance by DáVille at Sumfest Int’l Night II…despite stage furor

Things did not work in favour of international recording artiste DåVille, as he would have wanted to, but he still went on to give an excellent performance at Reggae Sumfest International II on Saturday, July 25, despite a minor furor on stage.
The singer, known for several popular songs including his most recent chart topping hit single ‘Missing You Right Now’ and the promising ‘Never Gonna Cry’ single, performed for 20 minutes, but was not pleased as he didn’t get the chance to give fans the additional treat he promised.
Apologising for losing his cool, DáVille said he had planned a special performance paying tribute to two special persons – the ‘king of pop’ Michael Jackson and his former road manager Robert Bogle (who died last year from sickle cell), but when he saw that the props he had invested in was not to be, he said he felt ‘dissed’ as no one told him that his elaborate presentation would not have been possible.
It was DáVille’s second time performing at the annual Reggae Sumfest. The first was in 2007 when he delivered well among the impressive lineup.
“I am grateful to have performed on both shows. At first when I saw the running order and the time that I was to perform, I was somewhat skeptical, but I was so confident about giving patrons a real good performance that I just said to myself, it doesn’t matter if I am too early or too late, I am going out there to do what I do best, give an entertaining performance,” DáVille said.
The singer said Sumfest was behind him now and he just had to concentrate on his upcoming European tour and other gigs he has scheduled for the Caribbean. He will be the special guest artiste at Mighty Crown’s annual Reggae Festival – Yokohama Reggae SAI – on August 16 at the Yokohama Stadium in Yokohama, Japan.
During his trip to Japan, DáVille will also promote his ‘Icheban’ album on which he has the collaboration title song with Japanese reggae group Fire Band. After Japan, DáVille will then embark on a tour of Canada.
During his busy schedule, the singer will be shooting the final clips for another music video, fine-tuning some lyrics he has penned then heading into the studio for some vigorous recording sessions.
“My fans can continue to rely on me to continue making satisfying music for their ears,” said DáVille.

SPICE SURVIVES HEAD-ON ACCIDENT THIS MORNING

Early this morning (Saturday), Dancehall artiste Spice was in a head-on, near fatal collision. The artiste was heading to Kingston from Westmoreland, for the much-publicized 'Digicel ATI Flip It Fridays' at the Quad, when a black motor vehicle travelling from Little Ochi sped unto the main road which Spice and others were driving.

Spice says, "Canar (her fiance) was driving and when he realised what was happening, we tried to swerve to avoid the crash, but we still collided. The man in the other vehicle was coming out of Little Ochi and said he didn't realise that the street was finished and he was heading on to the main road. So he came out at the T-Junction without looking. I just can't believe it even now. I can't believe it."

The artiste says a few minutes before the accident she started to feel sleepy, so she asked someone to exchange seats with her and take the front, so she could rest in the back seat of the Pajero. "I am usually in the front seat and some of the times I'm not wearing my seat belt and last night I wasn't because we were in a rush to get back to Kingston for the show at Quad, so I just jumped in. If I was still in the front I would have died because I would have gone through the windscreen. All of the front is totally damaged. It can't be driven. I just can't believe that could have been it. I am thankful to be here right now."
